| Experience: | I have tutored Latin and English while in High School and Math and English while at Penn as part of West Philly Tutoring Project. I received a 1350 on my SAT's, a 5 on English Literature AP and 4 on AP Latin Vergil. For an independent project in High School I wrote a first year Latin review booklet that was published by the New England Classics Association. At Penn, I took a variety of classical studies courses in ancient history, philosophy, literature and art history. Last summer I worked at the excuvations at Villa Magna in Italy that is co-run by Penn and the British School at Rome.
I spent my Junior year of High School in Viterbo, Italy and have continued to study Italian at Penn, learning the culture, history and literature as well as having spent a summer in Florence and a semester in Rome. I wrote my Honors Thesis on Food in Ancient Rome, using satire as a framework for discovering a Roman diet based on literature, archaeology, and art. Because of my great love of cooking and food history, I have taken many courses on the subject at Penn and will continue studying at the Italian Culinary Academy in NYC and Parma, Italy.
I want to be a tutor because I am very passionate about learning and would love to share that with younger students. I am a very good writer and constantly edit my friends' papers. I would be helpful in English writing and composition, Italian language and Latin literature. |
